Really need to call them boys at the Louisiana trapper's association. Lotta them guys are live market snaresmen and some of the best our there. Some pens pay more for snare caught. Cheaper to start out with snares too

Transport cage = similar to a dog box in your pickup, but made heavy duty. Remember, if he can get his head thru...he's gone.

Holding cage = something much bigger to put coyotes in for up to a week so they have room to get up and move around. They'll usually only move around at night in the holding cage...testing it's strength and design. Ticks will drop from them into your yard.

Keep in mind that you will have to feed and water them daily. And some will need meds.....this will take 2 people to do...you and whoever....each time. A helper need not be afraid of the coyote or you'll both possibly get bit.

You will also need a quality chokestick as you will use it A LOT! Taking coyotes out of traps and putting in truck cage/box. Once home, taking coyotes out of truck and putting in holding cage/pen. Taking coyotes out of holding cage/pen to take to buyer or load in buyer's truck. Some coyotes like to resist being handled. Some just go limp. The resistors are memorable!

Cage doors that only need slamming to LATCH is a must. Slots built in the cage doors for the chokestick to remain on the coyote until the door is latched is highly reccomended.

Traps are the least of your expenses when getting into live marketing.

Offset jawed traps cut feet more. Laminated jaws are a must. Strong springs are a must (baseplate if not baseplated from factory.) 3 or 4 Crunch-proof in-line swivels per chain is smart. Double stake with 1/2" x 24" rebar or use a single good disposable.

Can u do this without tooling up like this? Sure, but you'll have more bad days and some getaway coyotes.

thank you this answered a lot of questions.

Cajun Boy as I mentioned earlier you need to find a local buyer before you tool up.Once you get that established then start prepping your next move. I used a metal wire pet carrier and a homemade catch pole.you can improve on equipment after you start selling coyotes As with any animal don’t get bit the ER Bill was 48 grand. For the Rabies shots and visit.

Coyote bites hurt. Their jaw clamping force is incredible. Sitting your hand on an anvil an then striking the top of that hand with a sledgehammer would be comparable.

Good luck CajunBoy.

Once you get set up....you can do this.

It's like running a small business. Keep at it!

Id maybe look into pre rabies shots if I was handling live coyotes regularly. They are much cheaper and easier on your mind once u get bit. Ive had to sweat it out waiting on a rabies test to come back.

Google your association to find their website. The officers and directors should be listed with their phone numbers.

Give them a call. Most trappers will help you.

Cajun boy the mink market is supposed to be good next year if you can gain access to crawfish ponds you would probably do better trapping them for mink and otter.most the places I trap the land owners give a pretty good tip if you can keep the critters out of the crawfish
