thinking about using a quality fish oil as the base for a canine/bobcat/fisher/marten "trailing" scent; to be used at the trap site.

how would you thin such a base to make it more "squirtable"?

anything you would add to make it more effective (than plain fish oil) as a trailing scent?

Appreciate your thoughts/experience!

I use the oil after a fish fry and add a little fish oil for a kicker.

White . I get some scraps from a smoke house . I use the grease from the meat trimmings. Some of it will remain liquid but when it gets cold it will get solid You can add it to used cooking oil for volume. It works here.

I've used fish oil/salmon oil as a trailing scent for marten and fisher. Also as a lure scent (squirt up a tree next to the set).

I can't say it helped or hurt.

It will sel up/freeze in the real cold, so glycerin or something may help.

My idea of a trailing scent is to encourage a target animal to follow the scent to your trap set up site proper. In the event that you are not sure of the wind or your location selection. I don't see the advantage of the trailing scent application once an animal is at the set. Maybe I don't really understand your intended use well enough.

I guess I was thinking of say a ridge saddle that might be 150 yards or so wide at the top...and trying to cover more of the area with fewer traps; for travelling fishers, bobcats...
