Excellent idea about the Christmas lights. I did the same thirty years ago. Just put the switches behind the door on the opposite wall of your regular outside porch lights. Flip two switches and all the Christmas lights are off. No going out in the cold and unplugging anything.

Also, light your attic and deck the walkways. Put the switch where the attic door (above) is on a joist. Thank me later.
