I agree that snakes do very little to control the rodent population. I have seen firsthand how they can destroy the nests of bids. I am sure they eat every baby rabbit they come across too.

So by that logic ... they can do little to control a rodent population but decimate decimate nesting birds. both of which they prey upon

I believe snakes are a major predator of nesting birds. I killed 3 snakes this year that were actively raiding a nest when I caught them. Every call duck nest is had this year was raided except for one. The ones that hatched out of that nest were eaten within 24 hrs. Kill em all.
