Why are the videos filmed from military aircraft always black & white, grainy, poor quality? This is the year 2026. Why no full color and HD???
Whether the video is of a missile hitting a target or a suspected UFO...the dang military videos all look like they were filmed in the 1960s.
I don't understand this when I seem to be holding in my hand a better quality camera (in this phone) than they put in a fighter jet that costs millions.
Prove me wrong!

The same reason color blind people lead folks through booby trap jungle. I need more..... We all want to see stuff blown up in hi def color but we ain’t looking for tactical info.

Hmmm....I like pics that are detailed....can see more.
So, a grainy, B&W, poor quality video is better for tactical review?
Some of the videos released to the public are less quality than 1960s stuff.

You'd get more distortion with color. Interesting. My night pics on trail cameras (in B&W) are not near as clear as a color HD daytime pic. What is the difference?

Some of the videos released to the public are less quality than 1960s stuff. Less distractions. I worked with a guy in construction and we had to clear some trees for a retention pond. He was pointing out all kinds of critters and trails on the way in but couldn’t see the orange ribbon on the trees we were supposed to clear. The orange ribbons were all I could see. lol

Do you know this to be the reason (color-blind) or are you just guessing?

There are no color blind military pilots to the best of my knowledge. I'm red/green colorblind and there was a long list of MOS' that it kept me out of including EOD and military police. It supposedly kept my grandfather, where I got from, out of WWII. Not sure who HT is referring to.

Remember, Your trail cam is taking pics at a max of maybe 50 yards from a stationary position.
Those videos are being taken at heights of 10,00 feet or more from a aircraft that is moving at 500-700 mph.
They also use mostly night vision. Thus the B&W and graininess.

Color requires filters and that ultimately creates distortion
As for game cameras, they have slower shutters for night than the day so any movement causes pictures to get blurred.
Another thing on the grainymess is anytime you zoom in on an image you'll get pixelation. Especially with digital zoom from the camera. That's why you're always better off taking a picture from natural or low power zoom then blowing it up later.

All valid camera points.
But, I still believe better images could be obtained....even from fast moving, high flying aircraft.
Satellites get great images from space. How fast and far away are those?

Satellites get great images from space. How fast and far away are those? Pretty fast but what they are taking pictures of are slightly more massive than a bombing site or UFO. They're also taking hours with of pictures to get what you see in press release.

Another way is to use a recording device instead of the human eye. Recording devices can be photographic films or electronic detectors. Unlike the human eye, these methods have an advantage in that exposures of faint objects can made over a very long time. The exposures can be as long as 45 minutes per image. The images can then be added together to add up to exposure times of up to 38 hours for each filter. The longer an exposure is, the more light falls on the film. As long as the image is held very still, eventually an image of the faint target will appear. Another advantage of recording devices is that a permanent copy of the observation is obtained.
Hubble looks at objects which are so distant and faint, that even with highly sensitive CCD detectors (which are many times more sensitive than the human eye) it must expose for long periods of time. These exposures can be for 30 minutes or more. Sometimes hundreds of half-hour exposures are added together to produce one very long exposure. Observations using CCD detectors can also be added together, which is something that cannot be done with photographic film.
