Got a situation where some Yellow Jackets have built a nest/hive at the lower end of a corner side of siding. It is very close to the ground
which prevents me to being able to apply spray UPWARDS into hive opening. I have hung a few enclosed yellow colored bee attractant containers,.
these have caught a dozen or so bees and have used spray can applicators to kill other bees entering/leaving opening but still got more bees.
So far no one has been stung and I want to keep it that way. I need some ideas....

Easy one, set up a wet dry vacuum at entry point. I normally have a couple inches of water with dish soap inside canister but not really needed. Just let it run for an hour or two. Yellowjackets will be dead inside. You get both the ones coming back and the ones attacking. I have had to set up generators to run the vacuum if out in a field or whatnot.

I advise against using aerosol for a cavity nest. This will drive them inside more, causing issues. Attractant type traps may get a few but not eliminate the entire nest. A residual dust injected into the opening would be a good option. Over application can also drive them further inside or avoid re-entering. Locating the nest and removing from the interior would be another option. A good quality bee suit would be needed.

Consider that the shop vac will blast the pheromones in the air and get them really riled up. Make sure to use a GOOD bee suit, with cuffs all duct taped shut. Lot's-o-fun in this heat!

A little insecticide dust applied in and around the entry point should take care of the problem over nite.

Alpine® D Dust Insecticide. Is a good product for this use and will last you for a lifetime most likely as a consumer product. You can buy it online even though it is a commercial use product. You do not need alot to due the job, just enough for them to track it into the hive for you. You need to keep the material dry and do not apply in rain or just before a rain.

Do not block the entry point with this treatment and do not try to seal it shut. Once the hive has been neutralized you can seal the entry point if you choose.
