I had two of those Alaknak tents in that size. Everything you said is true (except the weight, depends on what you consider light). And I would always recommend a roof protector. They are completely waterproof when new and stay so if you only use them in the winter. Which is what I did for the first several years I owned the first one. But I went through two of them because I was setting them up the beginning of May for a bear camp and taking them down in October. If you leave them set up all summer the sun eats them and after a summer or so of being in the sun, being inside them in a rain storm is like being under one of them misters they have to cool people off at outdoor functions.

You can get "misted" in a large canvas tent if you don't get outside and loosen up the ropes prior to a storm. That water sucks the canvas fibers tight and if your ropes aren't a bit slack you're going to open small pores.

Never had this issue with any wall tent we owned. But when we bumped up to the17x17 marquee it became noticeable during the first real storm. One of the reason we went with two uprights instead of one. Jim from Spring Valley Lodges shared stories of single pole marquees that ripped the canvas up near the top 'cause the ropes were tight before the storm.

In the last week I acquired from an estate sale 2 tents made by Reliable Tent and Tipi in Montana. One of them is for sure a 12X16 Bighorn, the other, I am reasonably sure, is one of their 12 X 12 Teton with a floor, etc.. Both of them are made of Flame resistant Marine Canvas. From the Reliable Co., the Bighorn was ordered in 2018 and while they did not have the records if the same guy ordered the Teton, I am very sure it is from the same time period.

Both tents have the metal frames and ropes, tighteners etc. Both are in storage bags and I have not even had a chance yet to set them up.

I am going to be putting them up for sale and will price them by the each but will be putting on a price for both. Trust me when I say they will be a killer deal for each and even better as a package. This is a chance to pick up these tents in a once in a lifetime deal.

Montana Canvas , 12x14 have your stove jack at the front of the tent not the back , internal frame ,

From experience of putting up the 12 x 14 x 5 and 14 x 16 x 5 tents both with internal frames and center ridge pole with external A frame, unless you are physically fit and have a lot of patience consider the 12 x14 for sleeping with an additional smaller tent as your cook/ gear shack.
The 14 x 16 x 5 is a real task and a half regardless which frame you're using if putting up by yourself, the 12 x 14 is still a chore but much easier alone.
Another consideration for though is the 12 x 14 as tent for meals and B S sessions with individual small tents for sleeping unless we're talking immediate family with smaller youngsters. When working for the outfitters 99% of tents were 12 x 14 x 5 which were good until the snoring started, then you grabbed your bedroll and found a comfortable spot on the ground

Had a 17x17 that worked for that. Ranier I believe

Used a double tent setup that was a 10 x 12 inside of a 14 x 16 on a frame for several winters. Worked well for long stretches even in -50’s 60’s with a good stove.

The 12X16 has extra rafters for snow load support.

While it looks like it may have been set up it does not look like it was used extensively at all. Excellent condition.
