On your ace in the hole coyote set for that educated one.

Got one on my studio site. Pulled seven off there this spring, picked up another a month or so later. Figured that'll hold them for a bit. One is being seen so I set my usual spread and get what appeared to a solid catch and pullout in a #2 bridger the first night. There's a reason I dont like that trap, the 1.75 is a much better trap. But all that aside, toss out your ace in the hole.

This one can be caught, I've had others like it. One at this exact same site took me two years to catch.

BTW, my standard set is a well blended in dirt hole.

There is a huge thread in the Trapping Only forum where Tejas and a few guys who don't give up on educated ones share ideas. I think it is great reading and might get you thinkin from another angle.

First thing I try is hanging snares after one figures out what a foot trap is. Then stay as far away from them as you can. Likely remembers your scent as dangerous now. May just leave the area for awhile.

I would make a flat set with a branch laying on the ground. Put a hole on one side with your bait and lure of choice, prepped for a trap but no trap. Put a hole a foot or two down on the other side of the branch with a trap but no bait or lure.

… had one killing sheep that was giving me fits

…. The landowner made a circle of #2 long springs buried under leaves with a few deer bones with some meat still attached and caught it

…. Might try that lol

David, can you use live bait on the set? It's much harder for them to resist. You could pen something up safely, like a rooster, to keep your client happy and snare and set the approaches. If it's very wary of novel objects, it may take it a while to approach, but I would guess on a frequently occupied set, it's not very wary, even after being pinched, except for what it smelled and saw at that moment.

Get your attracter ( lure/bait) 18" or so off of the ground
A well blended trap or 2 should do the trick

Post set. Then a snare if legal.

For me a well blended flat set with a small backing and some curiosity lure, but a tiny amount, and just a few drops of red fox urine

Blind is tops if you have a few narrow spots that you think he travels thru. If you need to use bait or lure, something that has no visual and doesn't look any different when you left than it did before you got there.

If u can tell where your trap is by looking at the set i dont think its a very sneaky set

I love blinds and wish snares were an option but not legal in Georgia. Not much for blinds this is an old golf course that stays mowed with the underbrush kept cut as well, 300 acres worth with half paved. I do believe that Im dealing with a single passing through as I hit it hard in the spring and the deer were knocked back hard, 40 removed, this past winter by USDA. That and every goose nest on the place produced this year.

I really just need to pull the trigger on setting up a PCP air rifle and take up calling these hard heads that dont cooperate but my cheap arse hates laying out good money on a tool that I'll only use every now and then.

I'll get this one just wish I didn't have an audience wondering when.

In my opinion the really smart ones just leave the neighborhood when they know they are being targeted, the second smartest one just wouldn't get within 20 feet of any baited or lured set. Then there's the rest that you can eventually catch in a bait or lured set.
