Just guessing but down here we can only kill 2 a day. No clue what you can shoot up there. Some people may not live in a good fly way. Others just like to hunt new country and places.

Myself I never got into water foul much not knowing anyone that did it. I did hunt duck a few years but not growing up a duck hunter I had a hard time identifying on the wing to know if and how many I could shoot. I didnt like looking up what kind of duck I killed and if I was allowed to shoot it after the fact. Don't have that problem with geese. Just never got into hunting them. Looked like to much effort puting out larg decoy spreads to only get to shoot 2.
That reminds me i should probably try to sell my Avery lay out blind and 12g 870.

A lot of places you can hunt geese just for the asking. Everybody hates them.

Our NY resident goose season opens tomorrow. Daily bag limit 15. You do not need a shotgun plug . We have tens of thousands here and they are a nuisance.
I don?t know why anyone in the northeast USA would go to Canada to hunt them ?

In southern Manitoba its 5 daily and 15 possession.
I listened to a podcast a month ago which had a few outfitters, hunters and big land owners from both sides of the border. Their unanimous consensus was that big money was keeping the average goose hunter down there out of the fields. The big goose hunters would ?buy? exclusive rights to bird hunt the property leaving Grampa Joe and his grandson unable to do a Saturday goose hunt on the field close by.

It started happening up here, but Manitoba put a stop to it. Then the $$ went west into Saskatchewan and to a lesser extent Alberta??.but it?s a further drive. Those provinces are taking notice and looking at Manitobas approach because theyre now buying outfitters in Saskatchewan which was getting pretty hot with the local outfitters the last couple years. Their tactics and actions started ticking off locals & farmers alike. A lot of the farmers pulled their permissions for these bought out outfitters leaving them with nowhere for their clients to hunt. If a local population turns on an outfitter??.hes finished.

Theres some sweet goose action in the US that?s easily affordable and accessible for the average hunter, but was told to keep it on the down low to keep their fields from being flooded with hunters??. Some of you will know where I?m talking about.

Same here in PA except we only have an eight-bird daily limit on the resident geese.

25-bird daily limit on the wildly overpopulated snow geese.

From what I gathered it was hunters from the midwestern states kinda below Manitoba (I think those states are considered "midwest".....but I don't know). The further west they went, the drive was getting longer and less convenient.
Some developed quite a relationship if it was with a good outfitter. Still coming up for visits even though they wouldn't hunt, inviting the outfitters family down to weddings and stuff.

I've never ventured into Canada to hunt, but have been to North Dakota six or seven times. Have had some good hunts when you hit it right.

The procession limit is different in states that aren't in a major fly way, is my guess.
Anymore geese/ Donald ducks live here year around anymore.
I don't water foul hunt, so I don't keep up on the regulations for it.
Dove are also in or out of main fly ways.

How long ago? Was it easy finding land to hunt?
North Dakota should be a gong show for any waterfowl hunters.
