If you want the hides prime you would need to wake them up from their hibernation to shoot them.?

If we want fewer bear, maybe we should not be "feeding"
them so much dense calorie food. The WDNR estimates that there are 4 million gallons of bear bait used in WI during the baiting season. If the estimate of 25K bear is close that is about 16 gallons of bait per bear and not all of those bear live in the areas that get most of the bait. We could increase the number of kill permits in an attempt to lower the population but then we would probably have more bait or food put in the woods too. Females in excellent health will release more viable eggs during the mating season.

Merl was in the stand at 2:42 pm,now we wait and see what happens after 5 pm,I'm guessing I'll be back there before 6:30 pm.Merl has health issue's so he said this is his last bear hunt,he's 65 and killed a lot of bears,he used to hunt west in the no quota area so I'm guessing he's shot 20 to 30 bears over the years. We do some fishing, goose hunting and trapping together.

No good little value, not worth the effort to put up.Late fall bear will make a fair rug,and has some value worth putting up.Fat has value here,(local people are always willing to buy it)
Nice spring bear(no rubs) on the other hand is a valuable pelt with decent return for effort.
Meat is good both fall and spring.

No bears showed up tonight. Just the turtle, a couple red squirrels, and a herd of timber tigers.

Yes Sam the bears are very inconsistent this season. My son is going to take a couple nights because of the warm weather. We did get a new bear on the camera last night and my thoughts he is pushing 400 lbs. Would be a real good one to get. But there's a reason they are that big.

A good friend had this one come into his bait. Unfortunately he wasn't in his stand.

I'm sure it is a lot of work, but you guys are making bear hunting sound ~easy. I'd like to try it someday. I currently have 11 preference points so could probably go soon if the opportunity presents itself. Thanks for making this thread a good read.

I don't even know how I'd get one like that out of the woods smile
