And to add to the conversation, a new golf course uses way more water than a data center. But golf courses generally don’t get shot down in communities like data centers do. Go figure. Jim It's just straight up ignorance. Most everyone on here would support data centers......if they could only understand........ The same can be said people who don't believe in God If they only understood

Most everyone on here would support data centers......if they could only understand........ straight up ignorance is believing AI and data centers are gonna benefit you. straight up ignorance is believing data centers and AI are gonna lower your taxes, lower your gas bill, lower your electric bill. etc. those things only go up and never come down. they may drop a little from time to time but then go back up twice as much. NOTHING the government does benefits you. and i repeat NOTHING. but keep drinking that govt koolaid. it must taste great.

I am going to haul rock today into the 5th data center I have worked on. None of them more than 75 miles from any of the others. Good or bad it's happening. I wonder if we are headed back to the type of government people had in the middle ages. A small group of royals determining every aspect of the commoners life. Burdensome tax's, rampant poverty, very little self determination. I hope someone can convince me that the things won't be used to track every aspect of a persons life and enable a society that resembles Orwell's book 1984.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I only three that out there because I’ve seen that water usage argument come up so many times from local county officials around here. We had several counties put moratoriums on building them and listed water usage as a reason to keep them out. Then the very same groups passed new golf course building outs and I just scratched my head. Jim

I think that's exactly where we are headed. There are people that actually think the government should pay them a "living wage", and think somehow AI is going to take us all to that happy place. Yes, there will be good things that come from AI, but the evil will eventually outweigh the good because it always has and it always will. Human nature at work.

"You will owning nothing and be happy". This is what it's all about. You will have nothing and be happy, and if you have 2 portions of duty free rice each day you will be ecstatic ! But be careful trying to sneak that 3rd portion because big brother is watching you.

I wouldn't want one closer than 10 miles from my house, most malls are in good retail spots. They would be good spots for robot sales for home use. True. Yet the spaces sit empty and towns and cities keep expanding out while the building get into disrepair.. I would like to see cash put into removing, or replacing those empty buildings with something new and useful even if that wont slow or stop urban sprawl, it may stop some farmland from being built on.

Some of us have been so fixated on the Charybdis of the Left that we are just now becoming aware of the Scilla of the Right. ...I wonder if we are headed back to the type of government people had in the middle ages... We might be. We'll all be put back into that great chain of being, but since God is dead, it won't be a spiritual chain but a food chain, and the top will be the god-men of the technocratic oligarchy.

The CCP, with their allies in the media and political parties, are sure good at using fear to control the will of the people. Seems not much was learned from the pandemic. A virus was the boogie man then, data centers are the boogie man now. We are going to need more bleach !!

If there was no need to track everything in a persons life there would be no need for data centers and yes like wind or solar farms everyone wants them because it is written it will lower your cost of living but no one wants them next to them the improvements i see are press 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or more and then press 1,2,3,4,5,and then get transferred to i'm away from my desk or assisting someone else
