You're comparing apples to oranges. The hippies rebelled against society. While we think hippies are the stereotypical long hair and scruffy beard, it wasn't their looks that they stood for. They stood for drugs, alcohol, and free sex, all things that Jesus condemned, and quite severely at that. He also wasn't rebellious against the government. 'Render unto Caesar's what is Caesar's' remember? The only thing he rebelled against were the bogus Pharisaical traditions of the day. I agree that He still does love everybody, and as His followers we should as well, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with them or their ideology.

Makes more sense that He would suggest selling a cloak to purchase that than a weapon.

Jesus said to help the poor. He didnt say to give half your money to the government for them to do it.
