What has gotten out of hand in my opinion is with LOW interest rates corporations bought up housesand apartments and storage units then jacked up rent. I remember when rent was about 50% of what a house payment would be. NOW people pay more in rent than the cost if they bought it. So that's one negative of lower interest rates. I hope inflation goes to 10 % right before the Ibond reset. That might provide the correction the over valued assets that is driving inflation. Stocks for one thing. People say spending is the culprit. People I know that have made a killing in the market the last 12 months are spending it like handing out halloween candy

She is taking a nap and will likely miss this. Please refrain from the money saving tips, lol.

Good for you. People work all their life need to enjoy spending on things they want. I read the comments about how that was foolish because you could have done this with that money . To what end? How much is enough. Only thing we have in the market is my wifes 403 B. Could we have made more if we had picked more investments? Probably. BUt we got everything paid for. Grand kids are set for life. We buy anything we want and pay cash. Got money in bonds and cds I forgot about having . We might have 20 more years on this earth. Not going to spend one minute worrying or wondering if I could have "made more" if i had invested more.

I see the Fed is rsising interest rates by a quarter point, and probably will raise again before the end of the year. This is supposedly to curb inflation; I think a more likely reason is to encourge the buying of US government debt. They are in a world of hurt.

We have got a taste of how important that straight is to the world, with that in mind how would you like to have a nuclear Iran, Russia and China in control of it?

Average $60,000.00 dollar cars

$450,000.00 houses

Government spending out of control

And people spending

The country has had it to good for to long. We are approaching the end of easy money. Easy credit. Etc….. We need more pain. Before it gets better.

Look at the stock market. Slight decline. But not what you would expect. Dip buyers will be present tomorrow

Stay frosty!!!!!!!!

History of Central Banking:

Central banking was never designed to stabilize economies. It was designed to stabilize governments that spent more than they taxed. The Bank of England launched in 1694 with a straightforward transaction: a consortium of private bankers lent William III £1.2 million to fund his war against France, and in return received the right to issue banknotes against that debt. The template was set on day one. Public debt and money creation arrived as a package deal.

The Federal Reserve repeated the pattern, but with better marketing. Congress passed the Federal Reserve Act in 1913, sold to the public as a bulwark against the banking panics that plagued the 19th century. The Fed produced the most catastrophic banking collapse in American history in 1929-1933, followed by a contraction that destroyed roughly a third of the money supply on its own watch. Milton Friedman documented this meticulously in "A Monetary History of the United States." The institution created to prevent bank runs presided over the worst bank runs in recorded American experience.

Every central bank in the 20th century eventually broke its commodity constraint. The U.S. severed the last formal gold link in August 1971, when Nixon closed the gold window and defaulted on America's obligations to foreign governments holding dollars. Since that date, the dollar has lost roughly 87% of its purchasing power. Prices you pay at a grocery store in 2026 reflect that slow-motion confiscation accumulated across five decades.

Ludwig von Mises identified inflation as a hidden tax before most economists would admit the mechanism existed. New money flows first to government and its preferred creditors. By the time it reaches wages and savings accounts, prices have already adjusted upward. The purchasing power transfer is real and directional: from your savings to the first spenders. Central banks perform a political function, not the economic function they advertise.

The institutional story of central banking is a government granting itself the power to manufacture its own revenue without a vote, and wrapping that power in the language of technocratic stabilization. Every financial crisis since 1913 has produced more Fed authority, larger balance sheets, and looser constraints, which means the incentive structure rewards failure with expansion.

Hope you're right Jbyrd. But I don't think they'll raise again until December. Unless inflation gets much hotter before then.

For those unhappy with the rate hike, you might look at Treasury secretary Bessent. IMO he kind pushed Warsh's hand on the issue with his buybacks of bonds....

Why would anyone care about a rate hike? It has a direct cause and effect, don't believe it, just look at Brent oil down another $1.50 ! The banks need more money for their home mortgages and car loans. The oil companies don't need it. Everybody knows the oil companies and farmers are getting rich off of gov subsidies, lol !
