I have a customer who is rural. The greys have not seen traps. They have taken to chewing on her porch. They are avoiding the 3 tubes I set, and the 4 ground swing panels I set for them.

They are not living in the house. Only visiting to chew on the front porch.

I dirt tried pb. Then I tried Nutella. I just put fried chicken in the traps.

If this doesn’t work, are there any other baits I should try? Are there any deterrent sprays that work and don’t leave a white paste on the wood?

Try peanuts in the shell

I have had good experiences with cashews and almonds in my tubes. As gcs suggested, in shell peanuts may do the trick.

I have also mounted a 110 on a 6 foot cedar slat and laid it up against the house near the climbing spot. Caught several that way but customer has to deal with "hanging" squirrels.

Don't overlook a sweet bait. I use strawberry sugar wafers for skunks, coons and possums. I'll go through phases of catching grays. Not my go-to bait, but sometimes they seem to have a sweet tooth.

Are you sure it's squirrels ? I use the peanuts in the shells when trapping squirrels and have had good success .

I just use a 6 by 6 live trap and black oil seeds. I not a fan of tube traps. JMO

I’ll try peanuts in shells and sweets next time. I resorted to trying to figure out what they go after for trash in cans, lol

A hole shell peanut threaded on 110 trigger will get every one, gotta watch out for cardinals and bluejays though...

How are you supporting the 110?

with a stick between the jaws, a brick over the spring, lots of ways, just needs to not fall over, the squirrel will do the rest,

Use cob corn zip tied to back of trap. Visual attractant as well.

They do key in on fruits and berries when in season.

This time of year you may be going up against natural mast and that is extremely difficult to out compete.

Down here when the pecans are falling it's hard to get them to even look at anything else.

You could try matching the hatch using what's there. Heck, I've even raked a yard before to remove the competition, lol. If they're keying in on nuts the top preference here is pecan, black walnut, sweet hickory in order. My mixes at that time will have pecan and black walnut oil in them.

Don't be afraid to bait heavily and trail the bait in. I like piling up a handful or two of bird seed, I like the blend with dried fruit and seed, to get them feeding at the cages.

Next is location, location, location. I look for the travel routes. Big one here is fence tops, most of these suburban yards have dog ear fences around the backyard and that top 2x4 is where they run. I screw cages to the fence.
