This seems to be pretty good news for Iowa and the U.S. it’s an India based company so at least they’re investing money here.

Sounds like more importantly, the ore will come from the Mesabi range in Minnesota. Maybe Minneapolis can supply some cheap labor....

That is some big news. I'm wondering what the 1700 jobs will pay and if they will be able to fill them all.

I thought it looked good for Iowa before I read it was India owned. Why can foreign companies invest so much in the US and we can't?

From my understanding it’s being built close to the Wever fertilizer plant.

I agree, it’s good news, but it is far from the largest steel plant ever built in America. I know quite a few guys that retired from Bethlehem steel. Their Allentown plant was massive, employing almost 30,000 people in it’s hey day.

Their Sparrow Point, Maryland plant was even bigger and is considered to be the largest steel plant ever in operation in America.

Eh...wot?

They closed the plant in Syracuse last year. Some company in China owns it. I'm all for Americab manufacturing but they prop up these foreign companies so they can pollute the place then leave town when its time to pay for the clean up.

Finding help will be a problem, the Prestage hog plant can’t find enough help, but I’m hoping things will be different there.

Here’s Mesabi Metallic’s website of what’s happening, they say it’s the largest money investment in steel so that makes more sense.

Randall I’m not sure where the power is coming from, so I’m not sure if it’ll help the coal industry directly or not, it will help river traffic and railroad.

Largest blast furnace in the country is at Indiana Harbor. Double the size of ours in Middletown but not as efficient.
