Not sure but I did take a 50 cal ammo can, drilled a hole in the side and put in a lightbulb to preheat my 7018 welding rod so maybe I'll use that and find out.

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

How long is too long for the tail to be making oil? Got a late start and now our highs are spose to be in the 30's for a few days then back to the 50's with 20's at night. It hasn't really done much for a month or so just still kind of a milky color.
I just dont want it to sour or spoil.

I only keep mine outside for the heat of summer. At those temps I bring it into my basement next to the boiler for the winter. Those buckets have produced good oil for three or more years. It doesn't spoil. The good oil will rise to the top and get sweeter with age.
Shakey just looked in a bucket of tail oil he left for three years and it was beautiful.

We put buckets of chopped up tails in our fish house and can render good top oil in 5-7 days. After a few weeks its mostly all drawn out.

I leave mine out over the winter, it doesn't make oil in the cold, but it doesn't hurt anything either, and come springtime it can start making again.

I use black 5-gallon buckets with those gamma lids.

Screw em down tight. It doesnt gas enough to matter.

Ive got two buckets been out for a few years now on the south side of the shop year round. Ill top em off with more tail chunks in the spring and let it brew over the summer. Every once in a while I scoop the sludge off the bottom. I got gallons of the sludge I play with for certain things.

I do the same thing as Boone, except I mainly use gallon glass jars, but I have a bucket used to have two, but one got brittle with age and cracked, then came into pieces when I went to pick it up (that was a mess). That sludge and the remains of the chunks can make a good draw station, and those chunks can work fairly well down a dirthole if you are so inclined. Especially if you are dealing with critters that are wary of commercial baits and lures with added odors.
