Anyone ever use Duke 155 on armadillos? Would it work?

I've not tried anything but cage traps because the work so well.

I've never had any luck with bodygrippers. I think a 330 would but can't set them dry land here. I used 220s and find them fired no catch. I figure they slide right off the thick front plate, it would be angled perfectly for that to happen, without catching the small head. I think a 330 would hit a little further back. A 280 might as well.

Are you baiting them in or funneling them into it like a blind set?

Bait is fine but they are dumb enough to be funneled into and set off a cage without any. Northerners always assume a BG is the answer but the more of them you cage the more you will like it.

The best bait is armadillo funk. Use the first caught to funk up your cages rotating it around to crap and pee or put down a thin piece of plywood or carpet to soak up funk. This is why wooden diller traps work so well. Ive even dug up dirt from under traps that have caught.

Any lure maker that could figure out which glands, urine, etc need to go in a bottle would make a killing.

Jonesie and I once discussed him trying his hand at it but I balked at the idea of trying to ship a few dozen frozen dillers to New Jersey.

I used to make a lure when I was trapping them heavy. It worked extremely well. No funnels needed

If it makes a track on this earth , I can catch it.

My main strategy in funneling is trying to read the lay of the land and guesstimating direction of travel to point it in the right direction. A lure would greatly help.

Wooden traps are deadly and I mean extremely deadly once you get them scented.

Agreed! I was averaging 500 per summer mainly using wooden box traps with no funnels, let the wind blow through the box .

Is the effectiveness of wood traps in their ability to hold scent? Any thoughts on attaching a plywood floor to a wire cage trap?

Yes, the biggest issue with most cages is they're not built tough enough for armadillos. But a board on the bottom will work.

Yup, the standard slant door on the havajunk type is particularly poorly designed to handle the way a diller attacks it. They wedge themselves into the tight bottom, hook in their strong digger claws into the bottom wire and push. That bulldoze action will bend the upright lock bar and/or bow the trap top until something gives and the door lifts/flexes enough to allow an escape.

Traps with vertical doors, guillotine or ring lock, don't give them anything to wedge into. Smooth bottoms like wooden traps or plywood secured in a wire cage takes away the grip for the claws.
