Not one bad word about Jim's CNC work.

It's like Ai for gun building....lol

I've had just about every caliber BUT a 54.

Had 36..38...40..45..50..58..62

Those black English flints are the best in my book

I built this one myself. After rebuilding/restocking a .45 cap of my grandfathers with a walnut board I milled and making a .50 Hawkin from TOW, it was pretty easy assembling. With that said, I put a lot of effort into carving the wood on this gun and my uncle scratched the brass. Form and Function! My buddies think its crazy that its my main rig being their all carrying big guns with big glass, but its fun making them squirm, lol. Its a great gun.

Even bettah you put it together...nice carving...love the brass

Etching too.

What fun is it ..with a 300 win mag and a scope....

When there is fixed iron sights...a rock ..some powder...a round

Piece of lead with cloth around it....

I'd say ...we like a challenge...LMAO ..but it feels soooo good

Beautiful rifle, DT. Those woodsrunners sure look like nice carrying rifles.

2 beavers and an otter sewn tube style. Otter tail is a flap and tie it shut. Its definitely not a quick draw, but it keeps the gun safe and protected

The cows knee I made. This alone would not have been enough to stave off all the moisture I dealt with.

Great result to a very hard earned buck and doe. Thank you for the great story as well. Successful hunts all have stories and yours is well stated.

What an awesome story. Thanks for sharing. I had a lot of fun in Alaska hunting snowshoe rabbits with a 32 caliber left handed flintlock. I still have it and have a spot on my line with quite few rabbits. I'll have to get it out and shoot a few this winter. One of these days I'll build a 54 caliber left handed flintlock.

Trail cameras and fresh snow have broke a lot of trapper’s hearts.

How did you finish your steel?

Hard to see in the pictures it appears to be an aged “in the white”?

I forget the finish, I can look tomorrow. Essentially a darkening agent somewhat like cold bluing. I did that to all steel. Came out nice. It wears in a way where it becomes lighter and brightens. I did nothing to brass. Wood was another darkening agent, aqua fortis, then some heat to pop the curl. Then 5-6 coats of true oil.

I was wrong. 39 3/4”. My fowler is 44” lol. Haven’t thought of those numbers in a while.

Opening day of general is this weekend. Taking the whole family out and hoping to lay a few does down with the wife and the boys. My buddy has a spot im going to hit for mulie bucks later in the season. My buddy got a 200+” muley (for those that care lol) there and he wants to see me check the mule deer box with the ol flinter. Twist my arm! Maybe Ill have a good pick next week with the flinter front and center

Good luck on the mule deer. Post pics for sure, no matter what size it is.
