In Tennessee, early coon they like something sweet and in cold weather protein and fats work better. As a general base to start with I like to use floating fish food. Take a little and fill the DP up to the trigger and add what ever sweetener you want. In the winter replace sweetener with fish/crawfish oil. The floating fish food weathers very good because it's formulated to float.

For what it's worth, I will dump 5 gallons of cheap catfood and 1 gallon of lucky charms marshmallows into a lick tub, I add 1 large bottle of Sweet baby rays barbecue sauce, and a healthy handful of Fishmeal. For a trailing lure-topper, I take a 32 Oz Gatorade bottle and put 1 Oz of carmine moonshine, a small bottle of liquid smoke, a healthy squirt of fish oil, a small squirt of beaver sac oil, and fill the rest of the container with used fryer oil. I shake it well and transfer it to a few squirt bottles. In the field, I will fill my dp full and often a bit falls to the ground. I use the "lure" generously both on and near the trap.
It works well enough for me but I'm sure someone will tell me I am doing it wrong ? [Linked Image]

There are times when it is wet out I use trail mix. Something that doesn't get soggy and gums up the trap.

I use dog food and soak it in salmon oil or Coon Crack.

This year I took shelled corn, about a pint of Dunlap's Coon Bomb that was left over from last year and mixed it together to make about a gallon of bait by volume. Then I added 3 packs of cheap strawberry Jello mix. After that was mixed i drizzled in a concoction of grape and loganberry extracts mixed with cheap veggie oil, until I liked the smell. No catches to report yet but I'm experimenting with it. I also took some fresh crayfish and minnows, added some old, cooked shrimp and mixed them up in the blender until I liked the consistency. I put that in my DPs with some carp oil on top as a trailing scent. I had one raccoon on that so far this year. I only put my sets out on Sunday so today will be check day 3 so I'll let you know how they worked. The last experiment I did was I took a deer block that smelled of molasses and apples and broke it up and I've been putting that in some DPs as well. No hit's on it as of yet either.

Just use what works for the time of year because their diet changes don't over complicate it.

Whatever you use just remember that it has to be something that tastes good and the coon will want to eat. If it is bitter, sour or whatever the coon won't commit and will walk away.

This is why I like ADC'S "Cherry Bend Over" bait. The coons eat it like Thanksgiving dinner. I sure hope some kind soul keeps making it. wink

So far my Crayfish paste and now my Jello corn bait have connected. We harvested a large 20 pound PA boar coon last night on the Jello corn bait. What a chonk. He's going to be made into a coon rug.

Like Deaver, we use dry cat food with a couple drops of liquid smoke added. (To my knowledge, Deaver doesn’t add anything.). The trick we’ve found is to use a white DP cover that we buy from ztrap. The coon love to play and are curious as heck when they find a white object on their trails.

The caps are tied onto decoy cord about a foot long so they’re available for the remake.

You can count on it, Sam. The Cherry Bend Over is really the reason I bought ADC's recipes. I use gallons of it every season and had to have that recipe!

It was made by ADC (a member here) for quite a few years. He decided to sell his bait/lure business, which I bought.
To answer your question, the Cherry Bend Over is sold out for this season. It will be available again before next, however!

In our country we need it so it doesn't get soggy in the rain. This what I would like to find.

I’ll be putting out 68 DPs in a couple days. I’ve always used the same thing. Small dry kitten food covered with a golf ball and a dollop of molasses on the ball. Keeps the food dry and mice can’t get by the ball. Why kitten food? Lots of little pieces the coon has to work over and over again. Something wet or gooey will freeze up the trap. I’ll let you guys know how the catch goes. I’m hoping to put out another 45 220s and put a dent in the coons for 5 days or so then set in earnest for mink. Looking forward to it!
