Frost scraped a coon today for tanning.
First time I ever frost scraped a coon,it went very fast and easy to clean the whole pelt, including head and tail.
Pretty much the same as frostscraping a fall bear except it only took a couple minutes, takes about 20 minutes to do a bear.
Temps were marginal, minus 15c but the wind chill was minus 27c.

I thought windchill is only “felt”. So a block of steel sitting in a wind at -27WC but a temp of -15, is still only -15.

Yes,You stretch the rough skinned hide tight, then take it out and let it freeze hard overnight.has to be around minus 25c to work best.when its cold the fat and flesh come off easy and look like pine shavings from a planer. If its not cold enough the flesh is too soft and there is no advantage,
Works real good at minus 30 but even at that temp you have to keep it out of the sun, since the sunlight will soften up the fat.

I dont know about that, but if there was no windchill the skin would be too soft at minus 15c.

Very clean! What is your plan for an open skinned coon pelt? When I first skinned a few coons in the early 1960s and used a knife and a spoon they sure did not look as good as that!!
