I’ve finally been convinced to give them a try. Do you guys that use them for canines boil them? Dip/dye them or just use them as they are? I am familiar with boiling snares with baking powder. Seems that would be good enough.

I put them in a 5 gallon bucket of hot water with Dawn dish soap and let soak overnight. Next morning take out and rinse off with hose just to get the oil residue off. You can use them as is or dye them, whatever you prefer. I speed dip mine just to keep rust at bay.

I use mine brand new. Never had a coyote try to dig one up for me

I just attach them to the trap and use them. I suppose they get some dye/wax on them when I dip them. But other than that, I just drive them in the ground. I use finned super stakes and attach cable to the other eye to make pulling them easier. About half of the actual cable stake gets dipped into my dye pot so I guess you could say I dye them .

They don't need treated unless you have caustic soil.I've switched over to stainless for that situation.
