I have been putting fishing line on some old Spincast fishing Reels from the 1950’s and 1960’s. Thinking about my childhood and all the good times I had fishing , hunting and trapping. I started out at age 8 with a Zebco 202 combo rod and reel. Then few years with Zebco 33 USA steel foot models. I have a bunch of them and giving them to girlfriends little grandkids to learn how to fish. Then for some reason my dad and brother switched over to Shakespeare Wondercast reels this was around 1968 or so. I think my dad had a few that he bought in the early 1960’s and he wanted us or allowed us to use those.... ha ha ha. They were 100 % steel with great gears , looked like a Swiss watch inside. Man they were nice reels. I still fish with my 1799 and 1794 Wondercast Reels. I never owed a Johnson 110B Reel as a kid but bought one last week Off eBay and put line on it today. It looks like a really nice reel. I really think the 1960’s Wondercast reels were the Cadillac fishing reels of their day and maybe if all time. I wonder what the new cost were for these old reels ? My Zebco 203 combo rod reel was 8 silver dollars in 1969. Ha ha ha. Still have it. Everything is plastic now in the spincast world. What say you guys say on best Spincast reel ever made ? Marty

I bought a couple Penn Prion reels about 20-25 years ago I believe that are to this day the finest I’ve used. Sadly, I have paid two to three times what they cost me on others and they couldn’t hold a stick to them.

Been collecting last couple years, got some Johnson green , Zebco 33, all USA MADE. Got a Diawa last year , nice reel. Got a old Sears I thought was junk, cleaned it, took awhile, turned out great.

Johnson Century's. I even keep one in my flyvest. Swap the handle to the other side, Put in on a flyrod, and under cast spinners with it. I still have several and a box full of parts. I still love the clicking sound of the old johnson's.

Wow, so many of us used the same models! I owned as my very first "grown-up" rod/reel combo, the venerated Zebco 202. I have said my whole adult life that dollar-for-dollar, there was never a better reel. They were foolproof and a kid or stupid adult couldn't screw them up. I also had a Zebco 44 that I put through the paces for many years. Ditto a Zebco Cardinal 7 I used for the "big" stuff. Of course I drifted off to Diawa, and Mitchell now and again like lots of folks. I have even been known to enjoy fishing with the Shakespeare Wonderod flyrod and automatic reel that my father bought in the 1950's.
