Russian subs are off the east coast WAY more often than you could imagine.

I'm guessing that all this hubbub about poor dead dolphins has more to do with them dying where lots of people are located, as opposed to the fact that all dolphins die.
It is difficult to determine cause of death of sea mammals just like it is difficult to determine the actual cause of death of any mammal. A lot of the time there is the straw that broke the camel's back which gets assigned to the cause of death when it is actually a long string of events which add up to the cause.

How about the 23 humpback whales that have washed up just this winter

How about them? Do you have any information? Where did they wash up? What is the excepted historical number of humpbacks which wash up each year? They too, all die and beach themselves rather than drown right away.

LAtrapper, what is NY Times conclusion?

I was not able to read it without subscribing. I'd like to know if this is something natural that just happens or if it does seem to have a correlation with the windmills.

It won't let me back on either! Here is another link that says about the same thing as the nytimes had to say.

On Hatteras Island in NC, there was once a porpoise factory. The bottle nose porpoise were killed for their skin, and possibly their fat was rendered. Never heard an old timer mention eating them, but I expect that during the Depression, it happened.
