Hey 160user. Nice picture and best of luck. Since no one else has asked, Whats the rifle and cartridge you are toting? Looks like an old Winchester maybe?

Yes it is a 1939 Winchester model 70 in 30-06. The "pre-war" model 70's weren't drilled in the rear bridge for a scope so they used a Stith mount that uses the front sight groove and the receiver sight holes in the back on the left side. Inside the mounts sits a 2.5X Lyman Alaskan with a post, likely all 1939 vintage. This rifle also has a Tilden safety for use with the scope as the original "wing" safety under the scope is difficult to access.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Looks good Rob… you’ve got another two weeks or so to get it done. What better excuse to spend time sitting peaceful evenings in the woods?
Going to get a bit tougher now with the weather change for the woodland hunt.

Hang in there Rob, you will get one yet. Pat Fundine is lighting a candle at Church in hopes you score.

So, anything happen there in the first month of season? I've been anxiously waiting for results. Hopefully I won't have to wait much longer. Cool rifle....what happened to the 32-40 lever you were planning to use? Good luck!

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Since you don't have a bear yet, how about more pics of the rifle? Sounds interesting.
