I am sure this topic has been covered thoroughly in the past but out of curiosity I will put it out there again. When targeting beaver with a piece or two of popple and trying for a front foot what is your preferred pan tension? I've used little or no tension my whole life for front foot beaver trapping. This would be open water trapping with trap set shallow on a drowner. Just curious what majority does compared to what I've done for decades.

No pan tension for me.

I prefer 4-5 lbs of pan tension.
That said I run a bunch of #4dls which have next to no tension. Run them because I've got them.

I used to use little to no pan tension and had a lot of misses. This year I went to about 5 pounds and haven't had a miss yet.

There is no such thing as zero pan tension. I have not tested a #3 or a #4 but a 1.5 with a dead fall pan has almost a pound (12oz) of tension when set.
