I have heard that copper bullets like a bit of speed to open up reliably ...... sooooo Here is me doing a dangerous thing ... Thinking. I bought a couple of boxes of 130 Grain Barnes tax bullets and am planning on loading them up on top of a 30-06 case and pushing them in the 3300 + Ft/sec range .... See where I end up but out of this rifle I am running 150 grain Boiler partitions at 3175 with a load the is still a grain under max in the Hodgon book using superformance powder ... I am thinking of using CFE 223 as that is just a little bit faster burning for the lighter bullets. any of you good folks tried this route before and if so, what did you think about it.

I normally start slower and start gaining powder to see what the gun likes. I would rather shoot the most accurate load.

I shoot 180 grainers out of my 300 win mag. velocity right at 3000 fps. They open up just fine near as I can tell from the exit and internal damage. (yes I broke down and bought a chronograph)

I start lower than what I ended up with in the case of the 150 Partitions. Its just that the 3175 was the most accurate load with that powder. But I do tend to start in the upper third of the charge weights. At the end of the day, If I want to throw a 150 grain bullet at 2400 ft/ sec. I use a 30-30 not a 30-06 if that makes sense.

I have shot and loaded a lot of the TTSX Barnes in 35, and 30 caliber in 300WSM and 308 and they have performed very well. I love the long high BC boattails. I see no need to try and speed them up for better performance, but just for fun is alright too.
