a lot of the ammo dealers at gun shows are trying to push the panic to promote their prices hoping that you don't shop around

Yep

Which is why it would be nice to have a prices thread pick maybe 10-20 common ammos and powders and primers

where they found it , shelf price and if sale price what regular price was

then when people are being told it's a deal they can look and see how out of line and chicken little the person selling it is.

ammo good description
where
date
price

When all the primers and powders become readily available and cheaper than what I've been paying for them, then I'll regret stocking up

Just buy more and get your average down. It is pretty simple really.
GCP How much should a guy ask for ammo at a gun show? I run off Midways price list and round everything down to the nearest 5 or 0. No tax and no shipping. I will round it up if it is something Midway does not have in stock. Is that out of line? Yes on some stuff I could cut Midways price, but should I.

that would be a very reasonably priced ammo for a gun show if you priced it like that.
you can ask anything you want for it.
if you want to move you walk the show and under cut prices by a few dollars

heck at most of the shows I have seen you could buy it at Cabela's add 20% and still be under the prices being asked at the show for ammo.

I see some old slugs for a just under a buck a round sometimes if I do I buy them.

sometimes there is a deal but few and far between

That is how I price it. Tables are $40 each, I get two. The show is only 30 miles so I drive back and forth to the house. That will be three round trips this coming show. It is not free to go set up. I buy ammo to resale, and make a profit. I enjoy going, but can't see investing thousands of dollars to break even.

I am all for free market and you need to make what you need to make to earn a little

what I see is the same old boxes of ammo show after show.
they never seem to move at the prices marked.
I think some of them just like to chat with other vendors.

nothing against you selling making a profit.

just telling people gun shows don't automatically mean a deal , do your homework.

a lot of people seem to think gun show or auction means deal and it often does not.

the way I buy ammo is I try something and when I find what I like I will buy a supply of it so that I can keep shooting what I found worked.

I haven't been to a gun show since before Covid. For me, the only decent deal at a gun show as far as components were those Russian Wolf primers.
I use to be able to buy them for $10 or $12 per thousand. And with the current primer shortage I bet those have dried up now. Not to mention the current hostilities between Russia and the rest of the world.
