I believe most stuff should be legal, unless there are very good reasons why it shouldn't. I have no desire to own a raccoon. I see no good reason why someone else shouldn't be allowed to have a raccoon. They are dirt common.

I could set 6 traps on my property for coon tonight and would be amazed if I didn't catch at least 1 coon. No one is going to hurt their population by keeping a few coon as pets, or even 1000.

Cracks me up the critters people take care of and some folks that don’t make the same efforts complain so much about. Like living without food, parasites in a controlled environment is a bad thing. LOL

Nothing my skunk ever wanted for and she lived 7 years not many skunks that old running around I’d guess.

They are cool and fun when young. But get nasty when they hit sexual maturity. Not good pets when they become teens.

The good thing about a pet coon is, that when its time to go, they just go. The one I raised had a great head start when he decided to venture into the world. Fat as a pet coon as they say.

not sure about MN but in WI land owners or their agents can do all the summer ADC they want as long as it doesn't need a cites tag
no laws are broken if you are the land owner or have written permission from the land owner with a start and end date , a target species and a signature.

spoiled hay was an expensive loss at last years prices.

At least a coon does not make a horrible meal when it chews on a kid.
I would have a pet skunk if legal here. The ones I have seen stay gentle. Rabies vector is why its not legal here.
Tried a pet coyote. Best to avoid that experiment.

Put me on the side of let people learn their own lessons. We could eliminate 75% of the laws in this country.

It’s important to get a critter your going to keep forever fixed that puts a stop to most issues you will run into, here my Vet has no issues about caring for skunks Abby had her routine office visit just like any pet would have. Shots, X-rays and meds when she had issues from not being fixed during the breed to correct that, they say males get more aggressive during the breed but I never owed a male. The Vet would descent skunks also she’s a cowgirl you should work cattle with her it’s a hoot.

Distemper and feline rabies shots yearly not that they were consider valid in the eyes of the law if a bite occurred. She did not bite ever even when trimming her nails or getting yearly shots they are very gritty critters. You learn a lot of a skunks habits and daily behaviors by observing them like sounds you would never know about and personality traits (stealing the dogs toys) play fighting with the dog kind of stuff.
