Did some work for a lady today. In the yard are 65 and 66 fully loaded t-birds. Both with 390 cubic inch motors. The 66 is the landau package, vinyl top, pwr steering, disc brakes,ac, portable steering, custom interior.
Both are not running. Both have some rust in the quarters.
I'm thinking about buying both. So what is a good price?
The 66 I really like. The interiors are really cool. Lots of options and chrome. Both still have factory interiors. Heck, both are just loaded with everything from the factory.
Looking for an idea on a fair price for both?

I’d locate the parts you think you will need then make an offer parts were hard to get years ago (I was a parts guy for many years) must near impossible now together get the I’m sure there’s a T bird forum to be found they might be helpful.

My little D50 truck have a bunch of forums more then I ever imagined there would be.

The 66 in the barn has a vinal top, tilt steering, ac, synchronized turn singles power windows. That car was way ahead of its time.

I have no idea what a good price would be. But I do need to do something with ours. Has not ran or been started since grandpa died.

PF, does yours have the landau package with a 390 or 428?
They are very cool cars. She said she would sell if price is right. She has them for the grandkids who are 13. But we all know what will happen with. Either nothing or totaled one day.
She also said she is considering selling and establishing a trust fund for them. I told her that would be a.better idea.
I'm thinking 4500 -5500 for each as is. Lots of work to get them driveable.

Those sequential light parts are impossible to find dealers did not want to get stuck with the expensive components maybe someone’s doing them again I’ve been away from the dealerships for many years. I worked at one place another dealer wanted a expensive electronic part and the parts manager would not let me sell for fear of getting in the middle of sell, test, return or fry the part then return it.

Law Dog it seems there are repop parts and part dealers out there. Going back this weekend and talk to her more.
They are really cool looking cars.
But they will not come before my 72 Nova SS I'm building. That will be my pride and joy. But I can sče me cruising in an old t-bird as well.

Concours Parts in Carson City, NV will have every part you need down to the last nut and bolt. Check on line and get a catalogue. I have been dealing with them for 51 years when they were Larry's T-Bird. Take care...OTG

I have only walked around it the last 15 years and not given it much though other than its in my way and i need at least get it running so i can move it around. . Honestly I'm not sure What motor is in it just rember think it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be.

As far as the sequence lights grandpaw found a place thet specialized in parts for them when his was having problems. He had the choice of original or putting in an electronic controller. He went with an electronic. I have no idea where that was or if it's still in business. That was probably 20 years ago or longer. He has been dead over 12 years.

it's a project j. looking forward to starting but don't want to start tell I have time to be sure to get it completed. Will also be bitter sweet bringing back memories. He bought that car a year old for my grandmother. Always said "you get to ride in style today" on the days he would pick me up in it.

I need to research and find out who is the best at interior work. Where you close the door on the driver side is tearing and seems like the head liner needs fixed.

Also need the cover that goes over the key hole on the trunk.

Probably should Drop and clean the gas tank, clean and rebuild the carb, roll the motor over by hand and se how free it moves. Dad acted like he thinks it should be rebuilt after sitting. I think as long as the fluids are changed and it is nit locked up it should be fine. It was running and driving when it was parked. Now that I think about it I may want to replace all the break lines

I had a 66 like the one you described. Bought it used. My uncle owned a dealership. It was expensive to operate and maintain. First American car I ever had with disc brakes.

Girls liked it. Dark green.

If she knows anything about value on those cars, your thoughts of buying them with your idea of price is about twice to low, especially if they have any thing on them in good condition and are original everything !!

I had a 69 T-Bird, big engine the works beautiful round bench seat in the back, auto windows, Two-Door, automatic, it was a rocket, had AC, vinyl top everything, was a lucky buy, bought it from my then father in laws boss of a fix it up shop, he took it for payment and it had sat for a year or two, gave him 300.00 for it cash and and signed title one night when he was drunk and even helped me get it out of his compound lot, this was late 70's, he was mad when he sobered up but said it was his fault !!

Worked it over got it running like a top, cleaned it up from top to bottom it even had the original hub caps, was a real sharp outfit, started thinking about having a new home, and sold it for $3,000.00 which to me was a fortune at the time, same thing now like the older ones makes one cry at how much they sell for !!

If I were you and you really wanted them and they are in better than regular old, I would make her an offer that she could not refuse and throw around lots of words about investing the fund for the grandkids, but might make you nauseas for a while LOL
but I bet she would take it !!

Best thing about these old cars is that you can invest $60-80,000 into them getting them nearly perfect then sell them for $28,000, keeps you young and working!

I would be suspect of rust under the top on the 66. Had a white 66 with the 390. Beautiful cars. I would look at the tags and see when they were registered to be on the road last. If they have been sitting for years your price on each is probably about spot on in my opinion. There aren't a lot of people out looking for those cars, likewise you don't see all that many either. I would ask her if she is interested in selling and see what she may think they are worth before you make an offer. If she doesn't have a number in mind then throw out your number. If she gives a price lower than what you are willing to pay then I would probably split the difference and everyone wins.
