For 175 years, Penn's Store in Kentucky has been serving the little surrounding community of Gravel Switch, making it the oldest country store in the U.S. still owned and run by the same family. It first opened in 1845 and has stayed in the Penn family since 1850. The place still looks much like it always has, with a wooden porch, simple chairs out front, and the original outhouse still standing. It’s only open a few weekend hours, but it’s worth the drive to see a store that has barely changed in more than a century. A true piece of Kentucky history.

Had a similar store in Red Bird Missouri do not know how old it was but dad and I stopped there to get a bottle soda outside on porch every time we small game hunted or fished the river. grandfather had a blacksmith business next door that was long gone. Cool times

Love that it's still owned by the original family. So awesome!
