Happy new year folks.
I have a rough/green beaver hide in the freezer that I am planning to tan with the tail on for a wall hanger. It will also be used as an educational tool for the local scout troop.
I've successfully tanned several different first and done some research but I think it's better to find someone who "knows".
Do I need to de-scale the tailif I'm not turning it into dressed leather? I just want to make sure it's properly preserved like on a taxidermy mount...I assume that tails are not tanned separately for this, but I would like to know so I don't ruin this thing LOL.
Any insight is most appreciated.

Just happy to be here.

I've had Sleepy Creek Tannery in Iowa do several beavers with the tail attached, and they turned out fine. All I did was rough-skin the beaver and leave the top half of the tail attached to the hide as it is with no descaling. They fleshed the hide and the tail, then tanned everything for me.
