Ive seen where people say to trap the corners of the dam.iam assuming they mean where the dam meets the bank on each side.if this is right why would you set there.i would think a crossover or a dam break with a trap in front would work.just curious what some of the experts think.

No one size fits all set for dams. You got to read each one and set accordingly. Some will have a clear and beat down crossover, I like setting snare or 330 on the downhill side ideally well blended. If deep enough uphill I'll set a foothold on a drowner. No need to breach if it is well traveled. Check out the uphill side, often there will be a ditch or channel running the upstream face as thats where they scooped up mud to seal the dam. That channel is good to set with snare or 330 as they'll often swim the length of the dam. A small leak along the dam can encourage them to inspect the dam, set either side but not at the leak. Other dams you can make a small breach with a foot hold offset slightly. Dam corners are often were the crossover is due to terrain but not always. One caution on crossovers, beaver aren't the only critters using a crossover. You may not want to set a crossover if avoiding non targets. Beaver can be lured to other areas.

Here we very rarely have good crossovers. (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) breaks are the go to for nuisance beaver. Generally the edges have the Best funneling and solid ground. We have pretty mushy boggy ground so where ever you can bed a trap you doit. Ideally I put two sets on the dam, small breaks trap set back 1' or better otherwise you get mud. Back foot catches so need deep water to drown
