I dispatch non-DOA beaver with a pellet rifle. X between the ears and eyes marks the spot. Beaver go down much easier than coon; I'd guess just 1 out of 20 requires a second pellet.

In Iowa, a pellet a gun is considered a toy, and you don't even need to case them while transporting in a vehicle. Also no restrictions in the public ROW or over water like a .22 rifle.

I love snaring dry land beaver but mostly I use cages because I can avoid non-target snare catches/knock downs better (mostly coon). This is a Z Trap Beaver Z cage I like best but most bobcat sized cages will probably catch and hold dry land beaver
