Nashville and parts of Mississippi got blanketed in ice. Our trees ain't built for it, particularly our pines.

If you look at the many online photos and ID the species it' mostly loblolly/shortleaf pines and ornamentals like bradford pear that are busting up under the weight. The big hardwoods drop limbs but aren't coming apart.

Bradford pears are a terrible choice here because they split in ice storms. 10 years ago wen had an unusual amount of ice. Still, all of our white pines have branches only at the very tops of the trees. All the lower branches broke off. We had a 69 foot white pine split in two. Half is still up, the other half was cut up for capm firewood when that half of the tree fell over.

Nashville did get hit hard and Williamson county did to that borders Davidson county which is Nashville . Our son texted tonight and said that he was heading to Williamson county in the morning after they wrap up tonight in Rutherford county. The pictures coming out of some parts of Mississippi that got hammered it looked like a 1 1/2” of ice hanging on some lines.

In the neighborhood I grew up in, the city would plant Bradford pear trees in front of your house for free on the strip of land between the curb and sidewalk. There were literal thousands of Bradford pear trees in the city. In one wet, early snowfall, while the trees still had leaves, nearly every Bradford tree broke. The city spent weeks cutting the remains down and grinding all the stumps. They stopped giving them away and banned Bradford pears.

No, I think he is a US citizen so he should be fine.

I have nothing clever to put here.
