Hello
I did very well at the March auction.
Now trying to decide if I wanna send this seasons marten to the June auction OR play the game and hold til next March. What are y’all doing? Thoughts or reasons?

I also have a handful of “garmet quality” tanned marten furs I had Moyles tan for me a few years ago. …I never ended up selling these locally as planned.
Does FHA sell tanned fur? Have you ever sold tanned furs at auction? Similar (or abv w $20/ea tanning) prices as raw furs?

Thanks in advance for any and all insight!

The current market is red hot. I would send everything I had to the next auction. No question about it.

DO NOT send tanned goods to auction! Different import regulations for finished goods.

Good to know! I didn’t realize that.
That definitely explains the difference in price.
Thanks!

I would think there is a market for your tanned fur. Maybe try on trap shed to sell some.

I missed the "Tanned Fur" part. As newhouse said, don't send those to FHA.

FHA does sell dressed fur. I guess you would have to contact FHA and see how that works. You would think that dressed fur would bring more money since It's been tanned.

You will do much better selling your tanned fur locally if you can, or possibly on the internet. I've never sent tanned fur to FHA, but looking at their numbers, it looks very much like our local auctions, where tanned fur goes for just a fraction of the price of raw fur. If you have access to tourists (possibly a consignment store?) you should be able to do very well on limited quantities of tanned fur.

Like the others said, do something else with the tanned goods.
Mark Downey said that they were told to not ship the sold fur to a some of buyers because they'll be at the June auction. Plan is to ship them in one container.
Strike while the irons hot!

I listened to that interview with Mark Downey. Interesting they are charging shippers 11% commission and buyers a 7% fee.
If FHA wants to reward shippers they ought to drop our commission to 7% also !

The buyers have a few more costs tacked on than that. I’m thinking that’s why they pay a lower commission.
There was a new buyer there last June that got a surprise with some cheap ermine & fox he picked up.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for paying less though…..lol
