I had to read your post twice. Sorry, I don’t have an answer for you.

With a cage trap winged to a wire fence it almost doesnt matter what bait you use- they are so easy to funnel you almost can't miss.

No bait, and I've tried them all. None work, other than armadillo stink. Lay thin plywood or carpet in your cages, let the first one caught crap and pee on it. You now got your bait.

Drift fencing is how it's done. Find the pinch points and bottlenecks on their route of travel, set your cage then erect firm barriers, aka fencing, in wide vee that the little dummies will follow right into the cage.

Search the ADC archives, I've posted many photos of how I set up a diller job.

I know of folks who say they have but I've never been successful with bodygrippers. They're kind of like snapping turtles and 330s if you catch what I'm saying.

Over complicating things. They are near about blind, dumb as a box of rocks and any woodsman worth his salt should be able to slip in close enough to get their hands on it. Youngsters can even run one down. Done both many times over the years with the running bit being years and years passed.

Firm grip base of tail, plumbing pointed away from you and you can tote it anywhere you want. A knee in the back will immobilize it and they got a soft spot right behind the head.

You've obviously never run one down. LOL

It can be quite satisfying. A couple years back I took out two out of three that made the mistake of letting me get between them and the treeline at the church yard.
