One of my nicer ones. 22 lbs. 4 ozs, 10” beard, 1 1/4” spurs. A three-year-old bird I suspect.

His wing tips all wore down from strutting. The gobblers have been strutting, calling, and gathering harems since the end of March six weeks ago when I was up trapping beaver.

I’ve been at camp all week. Monday I called in a black bear. Wednesday I called in a bobcat. He got between me and a gobbler I was working and shut that down. I’ve been hearing a decent amount of gobbling and have worked a few birds, but until yesterday morning, nothing would commit.

Nice bird, Lugnut. Congrats!

I got one a couple weeks ago with one spur at 1 1/8" and the other broken off. I have shot a lot of turkeys, but I have never seen a broken spur. Not sure how common that is.

I also have shot my share of turkeys. I killed one 10 or 15 years ago late in the season that was beat to heck. It had feathers missing, several cuts including a large festering cut on one of its thighs and had a broken spur. That’s the first and only time I’ve ever seen a broken spur.

None of that stopped that old warrior from coming in hot and looking for love though.

I am a skinner Turtledale. I’ve never had the patience to be a plucker. I make pulled turkey BBQ out of my wild turkeys so having the skin on them is not really beneficial.
