You can make self supporting safety latches by just using Trapper’s wire. About 3-4 wraps around the spring leading up to the latch, go around the latch a couple times, then 3-4 wraps tight around the spring working away from the latch.

This winter I bought some 330`s and 440`s RBG and I tried this method of wrapping the 14 ga. wire around the spring arm. When I was done for the season, I wasted more time taking the wire off of those springs. There were a few that worked great, but most just sucked. Like they would lock going one way on the spring but spin going the other way, problem was the way I needed to go to get that clip off the other spring arm was the way it would lock in place. I wound up bending up some of those RK safeties, had to straighten those back out. I tried the vinyl tubing method inside the RK safeties and well it was just..........Whatever. It was better better than stock , but not by much. The Belisle safeties are the standard of the industry in my opinion. I have bought Belisle`s at times simply because of the safeties. In the middle of winter, far from help and those traps covered with ice, any brand, cheap safeties just aren`t worth it. Unfortunately Belisle`s are just about priced right out of the market. A bunch of years ago, I started making some of my own Belisle`s style safeties with 11 ga. wire, bending them all by hand and a pliars to replace some of the regular safeties that were getting trashed. They actually worked really well, just a hassle to make and then I sold all my non Belisle traps. I think these RBG` deserve some more testing and have seriously considered getting out the wire and the pliars again. It`s actually kind of incredible in this day and age that there aren`t better safeties out there.
The Beaver and the Bear will show the way.

Not all trappers like the belisle safetys. I like them ok on beaver traps but any box with narrow slots like marten boxes they are no good. Always having to monkey with them to get them to slide out of the way of the slots after setting. and before installing the trap back on the box The safetys that swing free are much better on a marten trap like the LDL.

Yup, I screwed around wasting my time with trying to wrap wire but figured out a far better way and simpler method IMHO to make safeties stay where you put them! https://youtu.be/TrR9N58syu4?is=8TnnZ_K1EZmzvXnP

All good points. And yes, I have tried the wire "stop-wrap" and am not a fan. And Boco, I know that the Belisle safeties can interfere with marten box slots, unless you make your boxes a tad wider to accommodate the safeties. Seldom, that is a fine idea, and I would get busy on doing that to those Bridgers, IF the safeties were even CLOSE to the right length.
Just doing what I want now.

Count me in the group of Belisle safety haters. I know a lot of people like them, and they are okay if you are using setters, I guess. But I set my bodygrips by hand, and I want free swinging safeties, so I can squeeze the springs together and give the trap a little flip to swing the safety into place. Because of my dislike of their safeties, I've never actually tried them in my marten boxes, so I hadn't noticed that they were also in the way there, but I can easily see that issue since you point it out. But as AV points out in the Bridger 155 thread, some companies (more than just Bridger, I know from experience) put their safeties on with one going each way. Why they do this I have no idea, it is pure idiocy. But it means you will always have one safety swinging free as you put the trap in the box, regardless of how you orient the trigger.

Agree. I like the looser safeties on 120s because you can flip them off with a flip of the wrist. Belile safties are too tight.
