The NM Trappers Association held a phone meeting on the 27th of August to consider an appeal of our case to the Supreme Court of the United States. After hearing from our attorney, Gary Letisco and Board members, the Board decided to proceed with the appeal.
We have been through two courts and each one has denied our appeal without prejudice.
The ?Wildlife? department as it is now called has yet to write the regulations allowing natives to trap for religious purposes. I am not aware of any prosecutions for trapping on public land.
Just to file the appeal will cost over $20,000 so the NMTA is again asking for help with funding. The Board is committed to pursuing any avenue to regain our rights. We would appreciate any help. My understanding of the process is we file the paperwork and wait and wait to see IF the court will hear our appeal. The appeal is being filed or was filed now we wait.

would be nice to see total of all the money that was donated before ,and where it was spend and what on , before we donate more?

I've asked the president to put my request for an audit on the agenda for our next meeting on Sept. 24.

Tom I would think we could get some help from the ranchers on this next battle, them trying take us off private land. What have you heard from them?
