My wife just mentioned that we were LOOKING for our Grandsons first gun and that he wanted a specific kind. DUNHAMS took it from there. We have bought guns for our kids and Grandkids for their Birthdays for years and have NEVER had a problem with it. Kyles Birthday is October 26th. He will be getting his Birthday Present a few weeks early is all. Night before Pheasant Season to be exact.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

I would move that up a little more.

take him where you can pattern it and shoot some clay , it gives them a much better success when a bird does fly than handing them a gun the night before and expecting to hunt the next day.

patterning more important than I think a lot of people give it credit , watched guns shoot a variety of ways patterning it we can accurately tell a kid ok half cover the clay with the bead or hold just under it.

sometimes see issues in a pattern where it is got a big hole in the middle of the pattern.

30 yards is a good place to patten you can see what is happening well it is also about where is good for trap and pheasants. if you hunt over a pointer and the birds flush close you can usually let it get to 16 or so yards and then drop them.

Academy Sporting Goods is the same way around here with a mis-informed straw policy.

Some of the gun shops in this area won't allow persons under 21 to leave day of purchase with their shotgun or rifle purchase unless accompanied by an older person. Make them wait a few days. Claim "it's the law." NOT! I figure they all use the same lawyer & get the same advice.
Cabelas does not have that policy so i appreciate them for that.

The 4473 ask if you are the buyer. A lot of people get confused on that when its intended as a gift.

that is because they changed the law in 2022

under 21 has an extra enhanced background check since 2022 while it isn't a 10 day waiting period many places just call it such because it gives the FBI a chance to probably do nothing but if you say 10 days then they don't come back every day asking you to check the status.

Theoretically the FBI gets a chance to notify local LE and ask if the person is a known subject of Juvenile issues that are not posted to Nics

Stores set policies . Don't like it go somewhere else. Walmart can't buy a gun and ammo at the same time.

Real ID doesn't get you out of a Nics check. some specialty licenses can but not state Real ID that just sets the standard for federally recognized ID's issued by states.

Most places now have you fill out the 4473 they are scanning your drivers license as when they check it before they hand you the 4473 to file out and they run the Nics check on the computer rather than call it in.

It runs faster and it seems like they aren't running one on you , but they are.

both stores have pulled ARs during times of panic or after a shooting.
some may have been just the manager moving them all to the back room storage and out of the case.

You would not be required to name your twelve-year-old grandson on Form 4473 since he is not the actual buyer/transferee, you are.

Eh...wot?

Poppycock, no need for that foolishness, our grandpappys never frogged around with patterning their scatterguns and they never went hungry... laugh

That applies if they get a hit on the initial background check. They can then extend the wait on a hit from the standard up-to-3 day wait to 10 days for an "enhanced" check.
Those gun shops i mentioned choose to apply it to all under 21 purchasers, regardless of nics status.

Never heard of Dunhams, but they sound like Dicks.

Back when Cabela had only one store in Sydney NE and Bass Pro only one store in Springfield MO, all other sales through catalogs we all got a few times a year, they were great stores. Now they are combined and corporate stead of family owned. Stuff is pricey and much of it low quality.

Agreed. When Cabelas sold out to Bass Pro, it was the end of quality clothing...and other gear. Cabelas prices had already been rising, but at least you could still aquire some quality cold weather gear. Bass Pro came in and rather than continuing Cabelas quality clothing, they tried pushing their Redhead junk clothing. Been years since Ive purchased anything from them and probably never will again...
