We'd all like to get the most out of every animal we harvest so what do you all do with fat from Raccont?? It comprises a great portion of the animal and I hate to just throw it out.

I heat my house and shop from it with a bit of wood. You need a central boiler wood stove to burn it thou.

I left a five gallon pail of it out last year and the neighbors dog ate the whole thing, bet that looked like a streak on the way out, but hear I toss it in the furnace as I'm fleshing birds get some.

I burn as much as I can of the fat. It helps save on firewood. It does burn extremely hot though.

It works great in home made soap.

My Grandpa used to melt it down on the wood stove and give us jars of it for treating leather boots, seemed to water proof them reel good.

Chickens will eat it as a treat...add some into feed once a week.

Burn it for heat

Make soap

Render it down in the summer (turn it to oil) and is a sub-par lube or mix in with deisel and run your coon line with coon fat...how about that smile

ps.....do not splash rendered coon fat in your eyes.....it BURNs like the dickens!!!...flush asap with running water!!!!

Melt it down, then soak pine kindling in the liquid. Use these for firestarters for the wood stove.

Has anyone really made soap with it? I have a soap-maker friend who wants to try it.

I've made soap from the fleshings - coon, skunk, possum...put all in a kettle, render & strain thru cloth. Thought it would have odor but the lye & soap making process turned out same as hog lard.

OMG I'd love to make coon fat soap and sell it as "natural" to the environmentalists at college. laugh
