I hate to get involved with such a childish topic but this one got me: ...in the east its all flat and roads run every fenceline right to your set! I've worked in quite a few states (east and west) but have worked with some guys who have just about covered the entire lower 48 doing forestry work. The one told me that there was no place as consistently steep as West Virginia. I'd recommend you check it out before putting the quill to paper again. Clark If you hate being in a topic why do you add you two cents? Haha you are telling me to check it out but you heard from someone and not "checked it out"....you got me laughing. Eat your own words and then see if you can still talk.

I think I'll stay right where I'm at ...right here in the midwest. That east and west trapping sounds too tough!

Eat your own words and then see if you can still talk. You're right in that I'm wrong in posting here because I do really hate these topics. Actually I've seen West Virginia, simply haven't worked there and had to experience the steepness. I was simply trying to point out your obvious mistake. To anyone who lives in the eastern states you sounded very inexperienced. Your reputation precedes you and you hold it up. I really do wonder why you make these posts in an attempt to get everyone in an uproar and bring out the worst in everyone? The whole "my penis is bigger than yours" argument is getting old around here. Clark

My Dad can beat your Dad up. I bet the Alaskan guys could kick all our butts in snow conditions except for Colton of course. One thing is for sure, I would love to go back east and trap with some of these beaver, racoon and fox trappers. I would take that opportunity anyday.

IMO the whole East vs. West thing is a load of CRAP! Its much more complex than that. I'm guessing from a lot of peoples comments that they haven't done much traveling outside of their homestate? I've personally driven from western oregon to eastern tennessee twice (as well as numerous other trips around the midwest... 21 states total) and believe me it's more of a state by state thing that it is a east and west deal. By west a lot of people think of "the ol west" portrayed in John Wayne movies... oregon, idaho, and washington aint much like that! Take a guy from anywhere and drop him in 2 or 3 different states and it aint gunna make a difference whether its east, west, north, or south... he isn't very likely to do as good as he does in his home territory. I laughed at the comment about getting permission from a couple ranchers and having 100,000s of acres! I got permission from a landowner here and i have 2 fields equally probably less than 50 acres! We have so many tree huggers here that you can spot at least one from any street corner AND they have an annual "fair" that draws people literally on an international level! Am I saying poor me? Absolutely not, I love this area. Would I love to opportunity to trap some different states? You betcha! Would I have any luck? It all depends on when, where, what for, weather, etc, etc... east or west is not a factor (IMO)

Here we go again! Grrrr I have trapped in every corner of the USA as well as the central states in both the north and south---that is from Maine to California and From Idaho to Georgia.
Every area has problems, every area has easy things. However the grass is always greener on other side of fence.
The truth is there is no Shangrila and there is no place that has it worse than any other place.
The animals have adapted in order to live in the locations that they are in, and a trapper must adapt to the locations. That simple, that tough.
Where is the best???-----Get out your door, take a deep breathe, enjoy, then go face the challenges, because you are a trapper and you have it made. Those that are stuck inside or know nothing about the joys of nature are the ones that have it the worst!
Proud to be a trapper and supporter of trapping organizations

As an Eastern ?trapper? I'd have to say I'd be lost out west. I need trees and houses to determine where I'm setting.
