I personally don't think it's an East-West thing I think it's an individual trapper thing. If you are an open-minded trapper, you would be sucessful. Closed minded and set in your ways, not gonna do so well. No bean fields here, gonna have to sub something in. Water trappers would have a much easier time than land trappers IMO.

I learned how to trap in WA and ID but I now live in Eastern Nebraska and I would consider it more Eastern than Western here. I have had just as much sucess here as out west just different species. No fox where I used to live but had plenty of coyotes I just used the same technique and I have done pretty good here. the biggest differences I see are people here seem to be more understanding about hunting and trapping. Out west I would never tell anybody I trapped. I just got the feeling that most people were against it. I guess the trap ban that got voted in proved that. I do miss the large tracts of land open to trapping and hunting. However, I do see an advantage to smaller acres and more pinpoint trapping. Bottom line to me is if you know how to trap and know the habits of animals you will do well anywhere.

Isn't it nice how we can each make generalizations about places we probably have never seen or just visited briefly. Take for example Colorado, there are many different habitat types. We have habitats ranging from timberline glaciers, grasslands, deserts, and forests just to name a few.
Questions like the one that started this post are almost impossible to answer because of the wide range of variables that are present. What he said

Here we go again! Grrrr I have trapped in every corner of the USA as well as the central states in both the north and south---that is from Maine to California and From Idaho to Georgia.
Every area has problems, every area has easy things. However the grass is always greener on other side of fence.
The truth is there is no Shangrila and there is no place that has it worse than any other place.
The animals have adapted in order to live in the locations that they are in, and a trapper must adapt to the locations. That simple, that tough.
Where is the best???-----Get out your door, take a deep breathe, enjoy, then go face the challenges, because you are a trapper and you have it made. Those that are stuck inside or know nothing about the joys of nature are the ones that have it the worst! and what he said!!!

East vs West is a bunch of crap. NORTH vs south is a whole different ball game! Now you are talking. Colton, you start a lot of garbage on this website for someone who has only caught a cold.
