Could use some help on dimensions, and how you build them so they collapse for storage. I would like to make 100.. And are thy easy to build? I was thinking of using 1by2 wire..

thanks.

Here are my plans for making the folding colony trap ... basically the same thing you are wanting with no doors and you will need spring notches ... change the sizes ... Garry-

The last link posted does collapse. What will you be using them for, will they be set on the ground or a tree etc? I would say you'll pretty much have to follow the colony trap ideas though, but you can do it a little different, instead of the tubing you can criss cross some of the rings so the wire doesn't slide back and forth too much, but you won't want to close those particular rings too tight as to pop the welds on the wire when they collapse. You been out east of my stomping ground slayin cat? Happy traping. ScottW

Here is a link to an old post I made. I used 1x2 welded cage wire.

This is what I make - built out of 1.5*1.5 inch mesh plastic covered wire used to make lobster traps - 24*10*8.

While I store them stacked (if I don't leave them out) all I would have to do is pop the hog rings off a side to get them to collapse.

Adding to this discussion. Has anyone made collapsable wooden cubbies? I have not but would be intersted in say a 3-sided wood with say a screen or wire bottom. What I would be most interested in is how to design a removable back if added and also a hinging system that is simple, fast and low cost and also a system that one can use for making the cubby rigid when set in place and not depending upon the set trap to hold it to form and or in place.

I was thinking of some type of leather or other strapping and also some type of pin recepticle system for holding in place when set up.

If you're talking about #220 enclosures, as required in Wisconsin, here's my version. A 32" (width) roll of 2"x4" galvanized fencing is cut in 30" lengths. Put on a brake and bent in 3 places. You don't need a floor.

The center bottom 2x4 panel is cut away for the #220 springs to come down. The #220 holder is homemade . . . lath glued, screwed and dyed with carriage bolts to get it up off the ground.

T-bar holds the enclosure down, and serves as stake for the #220.

'Coon's eye view of the #220. These work real well and stack up like Pringle potato chips. I usually stack these 1/2 dozen at a time.

My two cents.

Muskrat do you just set those in trails or do you cover them and bait them?

Mostly established trails.

In a couple of areas, I'll get these set right in the trails in August. Set a lightweight log across the top and some brush just enough to keep the 'coon on the trail.

Come time to set up, just lift the enclosure, set the trap on the support and stick it in. Reset brush and good to go.

If I had the time, I'd have a dozen of these in various places on a trail, and have 3 or 4 working bodygrips on the same trail.

After a catch I'd just move the bodygrip to another location, maybe 20 feet away, maybe 30 feet away. Just enough to keep 'em guessing . . .

These work very well for me. Easy to store, they don't rot, and once grass covered, more or less invisible to thieves.

I would think something along the lines of what MTP sells for a colony trap would work. I've got some of their colony traps and they fold up nicely. When open, 2 metal supports help retain the square shape:

I have made cubbies that collapse out of 1x2 wire mesh. Just cut your sides, tops, and bottoms to the size you want them. Next cut your notches in the sides for your trap. To put them all together go buy some rabbit hutch clips and the pliers that go with them. These clips when you use them roll together and hold the pieces together but, still allow you to collapse the cages. They work very well this way. For the back, cut a square that will fit and on the top edge cut the outside corners out and this will allow you to pop the back in out of place. Then just attach the bottom of it to the bottom of the cage with a couple of clips and you are good to go. These cages will fully collapse flat and are easily stackable.

Jim I talked to you the other day on the line. If you are going to make them for cats 1x2 would work. Plan on using them for coon go 1/2 by 1/2 or they will reach in. Make them long enough that the coon wont reach teir arm in which they seem to do quite often. And always stake solid or he will take off with your trap.
How are you doing over their?
