I've noticed quite a few of you guys posting pics of put up 'cats have adjustable stretchers with an additional board coming up from the bottom (I imagine great for the "Nevada stretch") but it would also be useful for other furbearers...such as pinning the tail open on coon.

Where do you purchase these?

Thanks!

Dig,

Those are "tail boards", and are absolutely meant for pinning tails open. wink

To get the full advantage of the stretch, some have a slotted adjustable tail board, like this;

Where do I get them? I make 'em myself. smile

If you don't have a way to cut a groove you can drill multiple holes. Works just as good.

I like to turn my cats. There is guys who just borax and slip them right on, but I guess Im still kinda old school.

Turning, I know for a fact that the front legs are dry, and the head got a good chance to dry before it goes hair-out.

There are a lot now that BORAX up the inside heavily and just THROW em on a stretcher.... drying time is quite a bit longer but never heard of any problems.... I did a couple this way this year as well.

Yes, guys do it both ways. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Maybe in areas of high humidity it might not work as well as it does out west?
I like to put mine on fur side out right from the start. It's just less work and works fine for me. I read about this in Wiley Miles "Scientific Coyote Trapping & Hunting" book. But, I need to put a light borax rub on the cats or they will mold in the chest/neck area. I find it to be a time saver.

It would be nice gesture to buy boards from guys that are on this website. Keeps it family smile
I have dealt with Craig Todaro and he has good stuff and is a fine honest gentleman to deal with!
coloradocat makes a great board also from what I have been told!

Homemade boards work super also. They just require more work to build. You can make them from almost any wood. I have boards made from doug fir, cedar and redwood fencing boards and pine. The only problem with some of these woods is they are harder and require you to use nails instead of push pins. But they sure last! I have some pushing 40 years.

Good quality western cats are sure worth a bit of extra time to put them up correctly. Buyers really like the well handled fur and will pay more for it and buy before they purchase the greasy, poorly handled stuff.

Thanks for the info guys...I'm slammed with work right now...and we just picked some fresh snow. Thus, this guy is going to be running lions all weekend...but when things slow down I will be sure to contact a couple of you for pricing...I like the idea of keeping it in the "family"
