Im know for a fact that these guys all know more then me.. But when i did my lams on my 1.5 dukes i used 3/16th inch flat stock and cold bent it to fit the jaws. That was what i had at the time so that is what i used lol.. They look much better now that i cleaned them up. Plus that was my first time tig welding.

Just for the record, i bought a couple Montgomery #2's that JC Connor modified and they have 3/16" flat stock lams. These lams are the same width as the jaws. I must say, the wide lams look alot more professional. Maybe because it was professional done and my others with wire lams were homebrew.
However, my opinion is that that is just added weight that isn't necessary. They are also 4 coiled and i think they have #3 springs as the main springs, with smaller helper springs. They are darn strong...

Truevine if you laminate, beef up the springs as well. We use lots of BLACK #9 annealed wire to laminate coon traps, not the galvinized stuff.

I just can't understand how anyone would go through the time and effort to modify a trap and then use sub-standard materials! Because they are raccoons, no need making harder than necessary. IMO if you are drowning coons then your waisting your time laminating and if you're not drowning them then use #11's to limit the chewing or laminate and boost spring strength as cheaply and simply as possible. ~ADC~

Rob, Yes, the 3/16th flat material will work too, but I think you've OVER DONE the job.
I've used about everything I could get ahold of to laminate many different traps. Some of my first ones were laminated using 1/8th x 1/2-inch flat stock. They turned-out very well but way too much work/welding (I did that too at first). Then the #9 wire was used and it works just fine and is a lot easier to form, weld and is also a lot cheaper than other materials. The wire is a lot lighter, keeping the jaw-weight down and not hindering the quickness of the jaws with the added weight of heavier material.
It's just not necessary to weld the complete jaw/steel parts together. The jaws get very hot from that and could cause some weakening of the steel.
SPOT WELDING the added pieces is more than enough to hold them in-place. A spot weld on one end, bend the wire around the jaw, tack-in at the center and then on down to the other end of the wire and tack it in place. File/grind down the sharp ends and you're done. K.I.S.S.
Unless you're looking to really increase the strength of the jaws on your traps, the lighter #9 wire will increase the holding area of the jaws when put-on properly.
Depending on the strength of your springs, that's another area you might consider moving up to a #2 spring. Weak springs are not made any better/stronger by laminating the jaws!
Yes but i didnt have no #9 wire and i got the flat stock for free. It took me a total of 2 seconds to bend the stock I made up enough of them to do a total of 24 traps inside and out side in less then 30mins and that was using a dull bandsaw to cut them with lmao.
