BUM DEAL,...maybe a carwash would work ive never tried it....never needed too....um.......boil em....if they still got the oil on em....if not..shooooot....u ready!!

Well, time to send the little lady on a day mission and as soon as the car is out of the driveway, take over the dishwasher, I won't tattle on you. Boiling in a pot works fine. Doing it outside of course, I notice that the oil floats and paranoid me, I turn off the flame and then start adding water so that if over flows so it is not going through the oil. But that's just me.

I've used the car wash for old and new traps it works for me. Rinse well with clear water & I spray new traps with salt water brine for a couple of days, gets nice rust going and when rusted nicely rinse again. But if you are using logwood dye you have to boil them anyway so you can boil the new traps & float off the oil before removing the traps. just a heads up everyone, bud ties THE nicest flies ive ever seen....and hes also the reason i started tying.

swish them around in some paint thinner, the new low odor stuff, toss them up on a roof for the summer, take them down in the fall and boil them hard in trap dye, then wax, if the rust bothers you then boil hard in toilet bowl cleaner first, then dye and wax.

Bud (Purple Power) buy it at Wal-mart in the automotive section put in pump sprayer spray on traps let sit a minute or 2 rinse at carwash or with gardenhose at home. (Done) Rust,Dye and Wax. Easy as pie. Dishwashers are not made for objects with 12 inches or more a chain hanging from it someone is going to learn that the hard way one a these days.
By the time I cleaned all my traps in the dishwasher I'd have a $1000.00 water bill. I like doing all of mine at once dishwasher limits amount you can get done and takes much longer than the method I described........

Dish washer then damp grass for a few days. Thats how I do It.

Depends on how quick you want them to rust, takem to the car wash then, if ya want them to rust quickly throw them in an ice cooler in the back of your truck filled with water and a couple hands full of rock salt for couple of days,, Just for your info rock salt works wonders in the cooler on the favorite bev chugging down the ole back road. just like homemade ice cream.

hey Bud, i shouldve put my 2 cents in earlier, but for the few new traps i have, i took some advice from the archives, and also just reading the regular posts.
i just hit mine with oven cleaner, rinsed well, then soaked overnight in a vinegar, water mix. took them out, rinsed again, then left in the basement for a few hours rusted them up enough for me....then dyed, waxed, and in rubbermaid containers till the season.
....this wont be cost efective if youve got a ton to do.

To degrease boil in a lye solution such as sani-flush, drain-o, etc. or wash them with laquer thinner. Then go to a car wash and wash and rinse them THOROGHLY. If they are K-9 and cat traps that you will be burying there is no need to dye them. All you need to do is wax them and you're ready to go - Roger
