Take your bow to the river during the carp spawn. Shoot as many carp as you can get into a five gallon bucket. Put in freezer until just prior to season. Then remove from freezer and chop up into small chunks with axe while still frozen. Use as bait. I caught a mink once.

buy some mink gland and rub it all over your body before setting your traps this way you won't contaminate your set.

Pocket sets along slow moving stream banks. Bait them with fish heads. Works great on mink and coon. I rarly use mink gland lure or anything like that if there is mink in the area he will find the fish head.

I like to use this pocket set for mink/coon... What I do is find a relatively straight up and down creek bank, or make it so by cutting down it with a trowel. Then I dig a hole about 6" in diameter and about 12-20" deep into the bank right at water level, and at an upward angle so the back of the hole is above water level to keep my bait out of the water. Then I bait the hole with creek chubs or 1/4 of a muskrat carcass. I put a few drops of a good mink gland lure on a small wad of grass and poke it into the top of the hole too. Then I bed a #1-#1 1/2 coil spring trap (a #11 or #2 double long spring will work well too) against one side of the hole and under about 1/2" of water. Mink enter along one edge and exit along the other edge of the hole most every time. I stake out in 12 or more inches of water so the mink drown. This set work equally well for coon or mink. For raccoons, gang setting (making multiple sets in one location) is very important there were 6 pocket and PVC sets at this location 5 coons the first night here. (could only get 3 in the picture). You may also want to try a 110 body gripper set on the bottom right along side a bridge pillar or culvert where a passing mink will be forced to enter the water. This is a blind set and requires no bait. ~ADC~

For blind sets remember mink only need and opening 3 or 4" wide a small weed or large blade of grass can guide them onto trap pan. You know they have short legs,no more than 1"of water over trap pan. I prefer less, and a free fallin trap pan.
Youll catch em.

muskrat carcasses make a good bait, that beaver you caught could be chopped up as well. Yes, and don't forget to get the rat carcuss to a good taint before rubbing it into your facial hair. It also helps to make your sets barefooted. The best traps are #3 coils with four pounds of pan tension. Put the bait under the pan, and just lay it on the bank. I am sorry PA Skinner, but I like fresh Muskrat, not tainted. Please feel free to rub the TAINT in your own face.

you need lots of traps to set in alot of places . hundreds on both items .
you need lots of ideas for sets up your sleeve's and can pull some out of your hat as well when needed.
you need to be able to go without sleep for 20-22 hours aday while your setting and checking all them hundreds of traps and sets.
alot of freezer space to toss all them minks in so you don't have to waste time skinning while trapping.
a 4x4 toyota 4cyl. truck to get you anywhere you need to go and as cheaply on gas as possible . truck must also have a user friendly truck cap with side doors and light inside . plan on putting 200-300 miles aday on it .
main requirements though are that you need to be atleast half insane , immune to pain , suffering, hunger, thurst, cold, mud, getting wet ,and have or can grow a rather large and long moustache and love to snort mink musk .
i just survived the best mink season i've ever had . barely ....
