Hey guys, I have got a recent perk in fiddling with making lures and baits. I know it's nothing that will ever compare to all of them commercial ones I have in my fridge made by Paul, Asa, and so on, but it's something that keeps me entertained in the offseason. I am wondering what is the best Lure/Bait making book out there that has recipes? I am looking for a book on how to make and formulate lures and baits with also some recipes. I know the one by Charles Dobbins is a very good read and I may have to buy it too, but it is about understanding and studying Lures, Baits and Urines, not making them. So what book do you recommend that covers a little bit about lures/baits in general but also has some proven recipes with instructions and ingredients? Thanks.

The only one I've ever read is Nick Wyshinski's and I think it covers basic ingredients and formulas, preserving, fixing, ageing, anti-freezing, etc very well for a beginner. Asa

Asa, what is the specific title of the one you read? I am looking on MTP and see that he has 3 different books.

Thanks guys. I will look at Russ's if I can find it.

bearclaw, The title of Nick Wyshinkski's book is "A Guidebook: Formulating & Compounding Animal Lures & Baits." It is a very informative book on the basics and the only one that I have ever read. I am not sure when it was first published, but it is still available.

I didn't know Nick wrote three books bearclaw. The one I read is the same title as the one Jonathan read. Asa

He did write 3 different ones. #1 Formulating & compounding animal lures & baits.
#2 Making and using lures and baits.
#3 Trappers guide to using essential oils, powders and crystals.
Here's Nicks # 570-752-2697. He lists all the books on his sales list.

There aren't too many books around on that subject. Bill Nelson's formulas are on sale on Ebay sometimes, I think the guy who sells them is a member here. Johhny Thorpe has a video on it. Good luck.
