I just bought a dozen of Yancy's Dps from Highview. I was wondering if there are more bait options other than marshmellows. You guys that use them put lure or fish oil around the trap then just let the coon find the bait on the trigger? Also, where can you find the u-bolts at to anchor these traps?

Don't need u-bolts. Just bend some number 9 wire. Coathanger works good, too.

Anything that will fit on the trigger. I'll be using Ol Roy Bark'n Bac'n doggy treats this year.

I liked Marshmellows and Jelly. or a q tip soaked in grape jelly and rubber banded on the bait fork. but any kind of jelly seem's to work. Yancy

A piece of sponge with a fruity bait or jelly can work well. A piece of fish if cats arent around will work also.

I just put a squirt of fish oil down the hole. I use to put a cotton ball under the trigger to hold the oil but i dont even bother with that anymore....shane

Cut a 1 inch steak off of a bullhead or an eel, let it decicate a little and you have a tough, smelly bait that they are going to grab on to an work until they get caught.

Now, since I am unlikely to make any money by keeping my secret a secret any longer, I am going to tell the secret I use to get the coon in these traps in dry land settings.

First thing you do is to

I just use marshmallows in the trap and some trailing scent around the trap. This eliminates all cats and you get fewer skunks and possums too I believe. In late winter I put some Blackie's Boars Delight next to the trap too.

If you want to get real fancy you can scent your marshmallows by dipping them in grape juice concentrate or cherry oil and bagging them in ziplock bags until ready to use. The scent stays in the mallows pretty good. Whatever way you use them , marshmallows are probably the best way to go.

You could try Coon Grabbers.

yepper, coon grabbers don't leave a mess in your traps. When they get flooded, they still smell great when they dry out. Hard to beat.

I don't use the Yancy traps anymore. But...You can impale a piece of sponge on the prongs and saturate this with any scent you choose. Use a piece of sponge about 3/4" square. You can get a bag of them for a cheap price at the dollar stores.

Do the coon grabbers have a flavor to them or is it just a scent. Not that it matters...just curious

lol I think I will pass. The reason I ask is because I thought of making my own from a recipe for making your own gummy worms.

I haven't seen them, but from what I've read and the pictures they look like they are flavored and scented plastic worm material. I thought that was an amazing idea. As far as making them yourself, as cheap as they are, it probably wouldn't be worth the effort to make them.

i tried putting a peanut butter covered rock in mine, behind the trigger, (its a trapmaster but they probably have around the same pulling mechanism,) the rock was the perfect size, ill have to see if it works,

I have DP Trap users telling me they use "Dobbins" Coon Candy in my traps and it works real good, where there's pets around, I have used it in cages and yep it works. Yancy

I have used marshmellows an sponges both , just impale them on the fork an use your favorite lure or oil on it an wham.I got something off of Wolfer an Lady Sky at the convention in Lima to try I think it will work good an its freeze proof ,not sure if it is coon grabbers or not but definately like the looks of them an will be getting more.
